The waters come together at Swansboro—the waters from the White Oak River, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Atlantic Ocean itself. From this coastal hamlet, there is water, water, everywhere. And Captain Perry McDougald is on a first-name basis with every square inch of it.
When Capt. McDougald opened Sound Side Outfitters in the spring of 2023, he had two dreams: To build a home base and community around the soulful pursuit of saltwater fly fishing. And make a way for his family to stay in—and thrive in—Eastern North Carolina.
When early sun paints the saltmarsh with golden light, or turns the azure waters off Cape Lookout electric, he knows he’s on a path he was born to walk. Making memories, crafting a legacy, building a life, and a living, from the best of Eastern North Carolina.
