Jamie davis

Rooted at the Table

Farm to table, river to table, coastal shore to table—executive chef Jamie Davis and his lauded restaurant, The Hackney, sit at a culinary and cultural crossroads in the coastal village of Washington.

His influences come from the Native Americans who hunted and fished these woods and waters. From France, Spain, Africa, and England. From the Pamlico River and Pamlico Sound and the Atlantic Ocean just beyond.

If anyone exemplifies the possibilities of a passionate and ambitious Eastern North Carolina native, it’s Davis. His first restaurant job was at a Smithfield’s Chicken & BBQ. The son of a soldier, he spent 15 months deployed in Iraq with the U.S. Army. Now a James Beard Award finalist, he crafts dishes that honor local farmers, fishers, and foragers—and the fertile landscape of Eastern North Carolina.
